When reading bedtime stories, Emma wants to hold the books and keeps spinning them around playing. Then it occurred to me that reading a Dr. Seuss book upside down actually feels kind of normal. 😂
I keep putting off exercising. I just don’t feel any motivation for it even though I know that I need to get in better shape. My wife finally got me to join her today in starting a program for us to do together at home. Going to give this a go and try to be serious about it.
Now that lockdown restrictions are starting to be relaxed a bit this week I have noticed more car traffic the past couple of days. It’s very weird hearing all of the traffic after the silence for so many weeks now.
I’m really enjoying The Mandalorian, but in a different way than I had expected. To me everything about the show, even the soundtrack, has this Wild West feel to it. I would have enjoyed the show regardless but this adds a new perspective to the Star Wars universe that makes me enjoy it even more. 😃
The closer we get to June the more excited I start getting for the new iOS and macOS versions.
Rediscovery
I’ve recently started discovering, actually rediscovering, something about my devices. They make a lot of sounds.
For years I’ve been pretty strict about keeping my devices muted. For my iPhone it kind of made sense when out in public or in the office, so that it wasn’t distracting to others. From there it just became a habit and I kept mute on all the time. This, then progressed to my laptop and iPad. For the most part this didn’t bother me. Adapted and didn’t really miss anything. I turned on the haptic vibrations for notifications on my iPhone for when I needed to be alerted to something and all was good.
Then the quarantines started.
Working remote required us to start doing more video calls to communicate with the team. Oh iPhone and iPad I can leave the device muted and still have a video call with no issues. However, on my MacBook if the device is muted then I can’t hear the participants. Since we could have multiple calls during a day I started leaving my laptop unmuted. Then all of a sudden I noticed some peculiar things. I was hearing sounds from apps that I didn’t even realize made sound for some actions. Yes, mostly this is from notifications but some apps have audio sounds for other actions to indicate either a success or failure response to the user.
At first it was a bit jarring, mostly because my volume was turned up and it was loud. But the more it continued I kind of enjoyed it. It was like rediscovering a hidden feature that has been lost. Obviously, if you get lots of notifications this can get annoying fast, I’m looking at you Slack. But overall it is pleasant and adds a new experience to using an app that I have forgotten about. The developers go through a lot of work to get sounds that work for their apps and to help with the user experience and so much of the time this little detail is lost because we’ve decided that noise on devices is bad and immediately mute them once we turn them on.
I’m still keeping my iPhone on permanent silent mode for now, but may reevaluate it later on. It’s only been a few weeks, so we’ll see how it goes long term, but for now I’m enjoying this.
One issue I struggle with when posting is organization. I feel that I want to use categories to make it easier to focus on certain topics, but at the same time it adds a lot of mental overhead.
I don’t really want to have separate blogs for personal topics and tech related topics but can’t find a good way to separate it. Mainly it’s just the tech topics that I struggle with. I want to write more about my iOS development work but also just random reviews or discussions about how I use things. Maybe I just have one category for dev topics and everything else is just not categorized?
I know that this is a very personal opinion type topic but I’m curious of any opinions or suggestions from others that have struggled with this as well.
It’s been a while since I’ve used Drafts. Giving it a try again to see if it sticks. Main appeal at the moment is that it allows posting to micro.blog. Let’s see if it finally clicks with me or if this stays my only use case for it.
Happy Easter! ✝️🌄 Frohe Ostern!
We needed to go to the grocery store this morning and it was such a weird experience. We’ve gone out several times for walks around the neighborhood, but this was the first time that I have been inside of a store since all of the quarantining started. It was just an odd realization that I hadn’t actually been inside another place except for home in about 3 weeks.
Hearing the birds chirping outside this morning was a nice way to start the day. So peaceful and pleasant. Spring is finally here. 😃
We rotated our dining table yesterday and it gives a completely different feel and layout for the room. It’s kind of making me want to move other stuff just to see what it feels like. Not sure if my wife will go for that though. 😂
Taking the time, while cooped up at home, to start potty training our daughter. Day one wasn’t too bad, only had a couple of accidents. She already liked sitting on her training potty before with diapers, so feel that it’s time.
